From Squash New Zealand http://www.squashnz.co.nz/about/default.asp
Quote:
All sports originate from simple beginnings, for simple reasons, and were played in a simple manner. All sports people know that in any sport to be good you must master the basics… the same can be said for planning.
The structure of Squash New Zealand's plan for the game is made up of three key elements – Growth, Best Practice and Performance. These elements are intricately linked and for the sport to be successful into the future, each of these elements must be developed.
The Growth of the sport relates to participation – the foundation of the sport – encouraging more people to become and stay involved, thereby increasing the depth of players, coaches and administrators involved in the game. Performance is purely about excellence on and off the court – producing world champions and world class people. These people are the stars of the sport, whose profile encourages greater interest and participation.
Growth and Performance are natural goals for any sport, however the ingredient that ensures that these elements are successful is Best Practice… having the right structures, best management processes, right funding, great planning, direction and an innovative approach.
Understanding the importance of these elements and their link to each other – without one element the other two in time will dwindle – is an important challenge and opportunity. We all must see, understand and support the wider picture. END QUOTE
Do you think our sport and the people in it ...
1. have "the right structures, best management processes, right funding, great planning, direction and an innovative approach."
2. effectively and consistently share Best Practices
Which squash bodies are "getting it right" ?? Moving our sport forward? |

| I'm not to impressed with Squash Canada. They're not the worst but they certainly aren't leading the pack at all. |

Surely somebody is doing something right?
At club, regional association level? |

| Just a maintenance of the most minimal of efforts. It all works, but it isn't going to 'grow' the game or change anything. The low-profile will remain as will the participation level. |

| Volunteers are mostly responsible for the completion of any junior/senior tournament or program. Squash Canada has little play... and that is of utmost sadness... they are not busy running tournaments and yet still manage to do a mediocre/slacker job of being 'the head'. In fact, thay are usually a problem, and definitley do not bring results. Sadly, what happens at squash canada all year could be accomplished by skilled/trained/appropriate people in less than a month. |

I think its exactly like what every other junior program is trying to do but they can't get past the cost factor to give free lessons, sessions, equipment, court fees etc. What he's doing is exactly like every other program ,its just I guess he can afford it somehow to get free court time somehow... maybe a government grant or a generous club owner. In Canada, we have neither. _________________ Do work son, do work! Shake and bake! |
