Last nite I was playing this guy who's no 1 in my region and he's much fitter and he started F-ing around and hitting shots that bounced ridiculously high like boasts you would give a person who's never played and I wasn't confident enough to flat nic it so I kept trying to wrong foot him with my trick shots. None of them really worked. Well worked well enough to win the rally he is no 1. Anyone got any good trick shots they play? _________________ My drop shots bring all the boys to the yard yo! |

1)Sprint to the high-boast and volley-drop it... or volley-reverse-angle it...
2)Hit a "philly"... (maybe known as a high-reverse angle boast/skid-boast... or something like that)
3)Hit the ball so hard he gets 'shell-shocked'...
4)Just hit a real nice drop shot, make him do some work to get it...
5)Some sort of fake... |

I don't think you get me. The boasts he played were coming out to court centre almost. It would be take a step and volley drop. I did hit it as hard as i could to perfect length that didn't work. Boasts weren't working. And faking didn't. _________________ My drop shots bring all the boys to the yard yo! |

Actually, I did get that... I kind of figured that was what was happening... Are you sure you weren't forcing him to play those boasts off your good shots? Its actually not to bad a shot as it allows you to get back to the middle off a defensive shot... Power has hit many a similar shot in the games I've seen... in fact, my former coach was a teammate of Power and he told me that... its better to hit a higher, looser shot that gets you back into position than a 'normal quality shot' if you can't get back to the the 't'. Power learnt that from... (the coach shall remain anonymous )
So, if its a high boast, near the 't', he's back in postion and ready for whatever shot you play... so a working drop is the best play. You hit a good shot, he was forced to play a high boast, he's now back to centre court and ready... so the play continues, that is squash. |

No you really don't get me. I already know about that tactic. He was toying with me and can get any shot back. It wasn't just high boasts it was all shots that basically were hit soft as and were hit above the service line for me to do whatever with. Like for one whole rally he hit 9 or 10 of those shots while I tried to put one away and eventually hit the tin. EG I hit a really tight drop he hits a nothing shot that bounces again for me to do anything with. It was show boating. _________________ My drop shots bring all the boys to the yard yo! |

Yeah, well you need to counter-pace his shots then... you need to volley his shots...up the pace. If he high-boasts...drive/drop it straight...try to volley eveything you can... don't give him time... Keep it simple... tight drives/drops... don't give him volleys...try to volley yourself....
When you say its 'show boating' its only like that because he has time... you're not pushing the pace... he hits and can recover to get whatever... volleying everything you can will do wonders... even if they're loose... it'll up the pace.... cut him off, get him out of position _________________ Do work son, do work! If he hits a 'nothing' drop off your tight drop it just means he was ready for it and read it well. He was not under pressure, most likely. If you have time to set up for a shot, he has time to recover and get ready for your next shot.
get the guy moving, move the ball accurately, lincou style... never expect your shot to be winner... _________________ Do work son, do work! Shake and bake! |

You still don't get it. He was toying with me for the amusement of the people watching. I play on the top line and hit it as hard as anyone else and their drives that are perfect length that he gets back and could play a tight boast or a tight drive but hits it up for me to smack again or do whatever. Imagine your on court with a begginer who's never played.. you hit every shot to court centre and have the ball at least bounce to the waist. Thats how he was hitting back every shot for a rally or two til I made an error going for a winner _________________ My drop shots bring all the boys to the yard yo! |

Don't give him time. Kick his ass. Just straight up f@#k him up. He sounds like a loser, exploits his better squash skills to make you look bad. Why? Because he's a loser. Balance it out... pain for you=pain for him. Get it done. _________________ Do work son, do work! Shake and bake! |
